Opened in 1899 as a branch of the Royal Mint to refine the gold of Western Australia’s rush, The Perth Mint is now owned by the Government of Western Australia and is renowned for the exceptional quality of its strikes.
Its bullion line includes the annually-redesigned Gold Kangaroo (launched as the Gold Nugget in 1986) and the popular Lunar series. The Perth Mint is also famous for spectacle: in 2011 it struck a one-tonne gold coin with a A$1 million face value — a Guinness World Record. Its coins are especially prized across the Asia-Pacific gold market.
